Culinary Arts Instructor, After-school High School Program Job Type: Limited Hourly Location: Brooklyn Description: Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) is seeking an engaging and dynamic Culinary Arts Instructor to help lead a group of high school students through workshops from safety and sanitation, introductory knife skills to professional level food preparation and production. C-CAP Culinary Careers After-school program seeks to develop essential culinary skills and technical competence along with employability skills that build success in the workplace. This program gives young people access to C-CAP resources and support to help them thrive both in the classroom and at paid internships upon successful completion of the after-school program. Essential Duties Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Train a group of up to 20 students in a 10-week after-school training program to develop basic culinary arts skills. * Lead learning activities to develop skills as outlined in after-school culinary arts framework. Develop lesson plans and supplement curriculum for pilot program. * Instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment. * Coordinate the procurement of all needed materials and products for programs. * Participate in interviewing prospective students and assist in mid and end of cycle assessments & evaluations. * Provide students with ongoing feedback and support to develop both culinary and general work skills. * Work collaboratively with C-CAP on all aspects of the Culinary Careers After-school program including logistics, student progress, and the development of ideas. * Review program work plans with C-CAP Career Advisor for effective internship program implementation. * Implement discipline techniques and classroom management. * Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment. * Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, students, NYC DOE staff on-premises and C-CAP staff. Minimum Qualifications * At least one year's experience working with children in an academic setting. * Ability to manage a group of students in a work/learning experience and have commitment to youth development principles. * Demonstrated skill in culinary arts, with professional training in the field. * Cleared background check and history indicating fitness to work with children. Agree to finger-print screening by NYC Department of Education.
